CAN A VIOLIN BE FASHIONABLE?

The increasing appearance of stringed instruments in pop music, particularly coloured and electric violins has greatly contributed to the rise of interest in the violin in young people, and although viewed by some as a "fashion item", others have welcome coloured violins as a means to an end.

There is no doubt that the attraction of these violins has made a number of children take up music, which they might not have otherwise. That alone is to be praised, and many parents have been pleased to indulge their fashion conscious children whilst giving them a chance to discover music. For the same reasons, teachers have also welcomed coloured violins, which have proved very popular in school ensembles. However, it is always wise to check the suitability of a coloured violin with your school or teacher.

These violins are basic instruments that have been painted in various colours. As with beginners instruments, young players would greatly benefit from an up-grade. In any case, we would say that if you do no want to take up the option of a complete upgrade, a new set of strings would be essential, as these instruments come with the most basic metal strings.
