Bond, The Corrs and Vanessa Mae (to name but a few) have greatly contributed to the acceptance of electric string instruments as serious contenders both for pop and classical music, but the versatily of these instruments extends further again, with people of all ages and musical interests as diverse as church music, traditional, rock, jazz, cajun music, and many more,using them.

As with coloured instruments, electric instruments fulfill young players'needs to be "fashionable" or "cool" or play the pop or rock music they enjoy, whilst still studying their chosen instrument. Young people like them because they can immediately play them, (a lot more satisfying than having to learn a totally different instrument like the guitar, for instance) and parents and teachers do because they keep youngsters playing music!
