Douglas MacArthur

From a very young age, Douglas expressed a keen interest in making stringed musical instruments. He completed his training in the craft at the world renowned Newark School of Violin making. He is now well established and runs his own business in Scotland, which he shares with his partner Marion Bennardo.

Using the classical Italian models of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries as his basis for creating his own violins, violas and cellos, Douglas succeeds in using his up-to-date research to incorporate the aesthetic and functional elements required by the 21st century musician.

He is very careful over choosing the materials for his instruments, as they are the key to creating the tonal response and aesthetic beauty both he and other musicians desire. He demonstrates this active search in the picture (right) where he is in he Italian Alps selecting the best wood.

Come to Cardiff Violins to see and play a wonderful selection of his fine instruments.
