The Magic of San Marco

During the renaissance and early baroque, Venice was home to the very finest vocal and instrumental music in Europe. Travellers from around the world flocked there to experience masterpieces from the pre-eminent composers of the period and musicians vied for positions at the great churches. Foremost amongst these was the stunning Basilica of San Marco, whose domed, gilded and balconied interior prompted the lavish and emotionally-expressive music of such composers as Giovanni Gabrieli and Claudio Monteverdi. We invite you to share in our celebration of some of the most evocative and spine-tingling music to emerge from Italy at this seminal moment in history.
