An exploration of the forces of conflict, destruction and death - from Victor Ulmann's The Emperor of Atlantis, written in Theresienstadt in 1943 to Monteverdi's The Return of Ulysses and Kurt Weill's Johnny Johnson, with the slanting perspectives of Emily Dickinson, Aaron Copland, Ivor Gurney and Claude Débussy thrown in for good measure.
